Fire & Police Station Projects

Several Fire & Police Station Projects Ahead

Watch for progress on the following in 2024

BARNSTABLE FIRE
The Barnstable Fire Station at 3249 Main Street, Barnstable Village was first built in 1935. It was added onto in the mid 1970s and then significantly renovated in 2000-01. Since that time, the department has continued to grow to keep up with a rise in population and annual calls.

In March 2024, a Fire Station Building needs Committee reported on the department's need to plan ahead. The current station has no room to expand, yet the department continues to grow. A proposed to move the fire department to the Water Department's property at approx 1841 Phinneys Lane. Land there could support a new fire station. One proposal is to then swap the old fire station over to the water department.

The District will continue to educate voters on the proposals and need of the departments as the 2024 District meeting comes along.

March 28, 2024

BOURNE FIRE
Bourne had been looking at building a new Southside Fire Station since 2018. Progress went along slowly. In Oct 2021, the Pocasset Fire Station 4 on Barlows Landing Road was found to be structurally unsafe. Two of the 3 bays were over a basement with danger of collapse. The station was closed and the staffing relocated to the Monument Beach Fire Station 2, occupying a trailer for living quarters. Station 2 was renamed Station 4 for dispatching purposes.

A Southside Station Committee was looking at several potential sites for a new station. One of the preferred locations was taken off the table when owners decided not to sell in Summer 2023. The Committee is reevaluating using the Barlows Landing Station site for a new station.

CHILMARK  FIRE (OPENED JULY 2023)
Chilmark was looking at options for a Fire Station in 2018. Voters Approved funds in Fall 2019. Work was expected to begin in July 2020, but additional funding was required.
Additional Funding approved in April 2022, and old fire station torn down. Construction of new Chilmark Fire Station and a Tri-Town EMS Facility began in 2022 and reports that it has been completed and the new station opened in July 2023.
FOLLOW THE CONSTRUCTION

COTUIT FIRE
Cotuit voters approved plans to renovate their Fire Headquarters at the May 2024 District meeting.
June 2024

DENNIS FIRE
Dennis has been trying to get support for a new Station 2 on the North Side for years. Serious consideration began around Summer 2018 and moved forward to the approval at Nov 2, 2021 Special Town Meeting for $14.6 Million station to be located at 350 Paddocks Path. Voters gave their funding approval December 7, 2021. The planned station will have 3 double deep drive through bays, a training room, and other much needed facilities.
FOLLOW THE CONSTRUCTION

EDGARTOWN FIRE
Looking was looking at options for future of Edgartown's Main Station on Pease Point Way in 2021. In 2023 Voters approved construction of a new Station on the site of the current station.

FALMOUTH FIRE
Hatchville Fire Station 6
The new Hatchville Fire Station on Sandwich Road is under construction 2023.
FOLLOW THE CONSTRUTION

North Falmouth Station 3
The North Falmouth Station 3 was built back in 1950.

West Falmouth Station 4
Falmouth had planned to close the 1930 West Falmouth Station 4 back in 2020. The town decided to continue to keep it open using overtime to staff it. The building is on a small lot and is not able to house modern apparatus. Ultimately, Falmouth may have to replace both station 3 & 4, or combine them into one North-West Station. Time will tell.

PLYMOUTH FIRE
Several Fire Station Projects are in the works in Plymouth.
The Headquarters Station 1
Emergency Repairs were required at Headquarters (resulted in partial closure) in 2019. The station was repaired and reoccupied. An extensive study recommends relocating and building a new Headquarters Fire Station in the Obery Street area in the future.

Station 2 - West Plymouth
The West Plymouth Fire Station 2 required a major renovation, which began in 2023 as the living quarters were torn down and is currently being rebuilt.
FOLLOW THE PROGRESS

Station 5 - Manomet
The Manomet Fire Station 5 is also being prepared for a major renovation starting in July 2023.
FOLLOW THE PROGRESS

Station 4 - Bourne Road
The Plymouth Fire Department Study also recommends the replacement of the Bourne Road Fire Station 4 in the near future.

PROVINCETOWN POLICE
A new Provincetown Police Station was approved in 2017. The design was reconsidered in 2019 and it was on hold for awhile.
The new station is under construction in 2022-2023 and taking shape at corner or Route 6 & Shank Painter Rd.
