Watch for progress on the following in 2024
|
|
BARNSTABLE FIRE
The Barnstable Fire Station at 3249 Main Street, Barnstable Village
was first built in 1935. It was added onto in the mid 1970s and then
significantly renovated in 2000-01. Since that time, the department has
continued to grow to keep up with a rise in population and annual calls.
In March 2024, a Fire Station Building needs
Committee reported on the department's need to plan ahead. The current
station has no room to expand, yet the department continues to grow. A
proposed to move the fire department to the Water Department's property
at approx 1841 Phinneys Lane. Land there could support a new fire
station. One proposal is to then swap the old fire station over to the
water department.
The District will continue to educate voters on
the proposals and need of the departments as the 2024 District meeting
comes along.

BOURNE FIRE
Bourne had been looking at building a new Southside Fire Station since
2018. Progress went along slowly. In Oct 2021, the Pocasset Fire Station
4 on Barlows Landing Road was found to be structurally unsafe. Two of
the 3 bays were over a basement with danger of collapse. The station was
closed and the staffing relocated to the Monument Beach Fire Station 2,
occupying a trailer for living quarters. Station 2 was renamed Station 4
for dispatching purposes.A Southside
Station Committee was looking at several potential sites for a new
station. One of the preferred locations was taken off the table when
owners decided not to sell in Summer 2023. The Committee is reevaluating
using the Barlows Landing Station site for a new station.

|
CHILMARK FIRE (OPENED JULY 2023)
